A Hairy Situation, part 1

Once a Kid has had a good soak or two at the spa, we take them to the hair salon. Spending decades in bags, boxes, or worse, gives most Kids serious bed-head.

Washing clears out the debris but can't fix the matted, fuzzy look. The individual strands are fused together.

We'll cover the treatment more in the future, but for now here's a tease of the transformation from before...

to after...

Stay tuned for our next installment.

Feeding Frenzy

The close of the 2023 Christmas season reminds us of the CPK mania that swept the nation 40 years ago. The following clip shows people demonstrating that holiday’s peace on earth and goodwill towards their fellow man…as they shoved, pushed, and ripped Kids off the shelves.

In this short story from 1983, the venerable Entertainment Tonight (the show that launched a thousand John Teshes!) gives its spin on the CPK craze.

Finally, here is a comprehensive, now-and-then retrospective on the madness. About midway through, a reporter relates how his family snagged a doll at the store’s loading dock – totally not like a backroom drug deal.

We also enjoy the clips for the early-80s fashion tips. Is that you behind those Foster Grants?

No matter how you remember them, the Kids are back and better than ever!

TLC-Plus

For some Kids, the CPRR-Pro that we described earlier only scratches the surface. That's when we have to step things up to the CPRR-Pro-Plus.

Bad smells are a common reason why a Kid might need special attention. If you hang out in a musty box or smoker's house for 40 years, even the washing machine won't clean you. The best thing in that case is a long soak--in soap, vinegar, baking soda, or some combination of the above.

"We love our individual bathtubs!"

"I think I'm getting pruney, but I don't care. Look at all my bubbles!"

In some cases it's the hair that has held onto the smells. For these Kids we get creative with how we soak them to avoid dunking their little faces in cleaner. They also get to practice their acrobatics. "Next up are the twins from Romania attempting a synchronized dive..."

When Kids come with pen or marker stains on their faces, of the sort we mentioned before, we need the help of a higher power. We apply acne cream to the spots and let the Kids enjoy some time in the sun. The benzoyl peroxide interacts with the light and heat to slowly, slowly over the course of many applications fade out the ink.

Fortunately, the CP Rehab facility has no laws on public indecency. "You won't see any tan lines on me!"

When the sun isn't strong enough to really warm the cream, we improvise with tanning booths.

"Hrmpfh."

Finally, after all this extra attention and treatment, the Kids get to hang out in the spa's community room. They like the chance to meet and mingle.

"Hey cutie, come here often?"
